We now have an unofficial confirmation that the XBOX 720 will be released in late 2012, early 2013. More after the break.
First “Real” Development Kits Will Be Send Out Next Month
Ubisoft Montreal is supposedly getting a first real development kit for the XBOX 720 shortly before Christmas 2011 and they already have so called “target boxes”, which are most likely prototypes.
Yes, we still have no specs on the target boxes, but we can assume that at least a Quad-Core by AMD or Intel is sleeping within those target boxes and possibly a really awesome, custom-built card for Microsoft.
So, it really looks like we will play games like Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Patriots on the XBOX 720! And we also expect that GTA 5 could turn out to be a launch title for the XBOX 720.
XBOX 720 in 2012? Sony Can’t Be Far Behind
Sony can’t afford to be late to the show. Their stock price is in decline. The XBOX is outselling the PS3 and Sony does not have a flagship product like Apple’s iPad. They were also attacked by hackers several times. In a nutshell, times are tough for Sony, but they could turn around the wheel if they would release a new console that crushes the competition.
Nintendo made the first move and will release the Wii U in 2012, but analysts are still cautious. That’s a chance for Sony and Microsoft to shine again. (Nintendo will still have the most best-sellers anyway!)

Want to know what to expect from Sony and Microsoft? This isn’t actual gameplay footage, but when you look at the epic GTA 5 trailer, you can assume that it will be very close.
