Xbox One October Update Rolling Out

Users of the Xbox One have gotten to love and enjoy the latest updates, and each month brings a wonderful number of updates from Microsoft on this next-generation console. On Friday, Microsoft and Major Nelson announced the latest October updates are rolling out, which users should see today.

The updates in October 2014 to the Xbox One cover a number of updates that users should notice on their Xbox One consoles. From bette snap mode, friend functions, MKV support, and more, it will give Xbox One users reasons to hit the update button now.

Snap and Friend Functions

By far the biggest updates for the Xbox One in October related to the snap updates and friend functions. The snap center now has a faster reaction time, includes a friends snap app for friends, and a messages snapp app to read messages on the Xbox One.

With friends, Microsoft and the Xbox One now include achievement apps for sharing with friends and loved ones. It will show off recent achivements and make friends jealous. There is a new friends section that shows off what is happening with friends too. Lastly, new SmartGlass features will show off a top games list in the users profile, and show off the new games to friends.

TV & Video Updates

There were a number of tv and video updates to the Xbox One in October as well. The new version of media player now supports DLNA streaming and playback of MKV files. This will be helpful with those who watch them, and can be played back on USB devices. A new MiniGuide is also available to show TV content playing locally on TV, cable, or satellite.

OneGuide also now became available in 11 new countries, so congrats to them. Internet TV apps are also supported with the latest updates, and are mainly a European feature. Universal remote control in SmartGlass has also been enabled along with a better setup for Live TV during the initial setup experience. Lastly, live tv cable and satellite box auto-detection services have been updated, making the live tv setup much easier to use.
