Crytek Studios new release for the Xbox One launch line up Ryse:Son of Rome had everyone talking at E3 with some brutal combat action and gory graphics.
Bringing Ancient Roman warfare to the new generation – in style
Ryse was defiantly the best looking game for the Xbox One but the fast combat heavy gameplay impressed with anyone who got to play the game.
Ryse is a third person action adventure where you play out a traditional revenge story as Marius Titus seeking revenge for the death of his family.
It will feature a new engine designed by Crytek studios that is designed specifically for the new generation and developers have stated there is now no differences between cinematic cut scenes and in-game graphics.
Ryse to be moren than a button-masher
One of the main concerns about the game following the gameplay demo at E3 was that it was a QTE heavy button masher that simply relied on players to hit the right button when prompted.
This was probably a side effect of the game originally being designed as a Kinect only title where for obvious reasons input would have been simplified.
Crytek design director, PJ Esteves stresses that the game is not a button masher but a rhythm focused gameplay experience that caters for all.
“If you want to button mash , you can , but timing and using the right moves at the right moment is key to keep the combos going and scoring more points”
“The button prompts are just additional mini games on top of the execution based gameplay – instead of having a cinematic we keep the gamer involved.”
Crytek goes into a completely different direction with Ryse
Ryse is a change of direction for a studio previously behind blockbusters such as the Far Cry and Crysis series.
It is a third person adventure game as opposed to a First Person Shooter but Esteves thinks this allows for the game to look so good graphically among other benefits.
“We have a history of producing detailed games in the FirstPerson world so when you take it third person it looks spectacular “
The game will also feature team focused moments that rely on the combat formations that roman warfare was famous for along with SmartGlass support.
