During the IFA 2014 show, Microsoft on Thursday came out with all of its announcements which blew people away. With the announcements, Microsoft announced two new phones, and a brand new update to Windows Phone 8.1 called Denim, which will drastically affect the Windows Phone universe.
The IFA 2014 show is generally a show for the press, and many phone manufacturers usually come out with announcements during the show. Microsoft waited towards the end, a day after Samsung, and right before Apple’s announcement of the new iPhone to make a stance during the show.
Nokia 730/735 and Lumia 830
The Nokia 735/730 is the long hyped Selfie phone that we discussed earlier. It has a 5-megapixel camera on the front, and a Lumia selfie app. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 8GB of memory. With a 4.7-inch 1280×720 OLED display which makes it a middle of the road phone too. Microsoft is also giving out Skype Unlimited Worldwide on its global versions of the phone to attract users.
The Microsoft Lumia 830 though is a better phone. Its the affordable flagship phone, and has an aluminum frame and 10MP rear camera. It will come with Windows Phone 8.1.1, and is able to shoot dual pictures at the same time. It has a 5-inch 720p display, a Snapdragon 400 display, and will be available for 330 euro this month.
Windows Phone Goes Denim
The other big announcement from Windows Phone is Denim. Denim is the latest update for Windows Phone 8.1 update 1. It has a number of features, with the biggest being a improvement to the Cortana voice assistant. It can be launched with a Hey Cortana, and competes with other phones.
Other features of the update include geofencing, speed updates for the camera via the hardware button, a moment capture feature, burst mode for photos, a glance screen, and other features. It also brings live folders and SMS merging and forwarding for users looking for that. For enterprise customers, a secure consumer VPN will also be installed as well.
The new Windows Phones are meant to attract new Windows Phone fans. The Denim update though will be interesting, but doesn’t roll out until later this year.
