For Windows Phone users, Monday was a huge day for news from Microsoft. The announcement of the official notes on the Windows Phone 8 Update 3 gave a ton of new features that users will be able to use soon, and points to the future of Windows Phone is an all new way.
The updates as described on the Windows Blog on Monday, are due to hit phones over the next few months, but developers will be able to get a hold of it sooner than ever thought of from Microsoft. These updates are based to increase quality, performance, and usability of Windows Phone.
Bigger Screens, Hardware, and More
The first thing noted is the update will support larger phone screens with 5 to 6-inch screens, which can support 1080p HD displays. The bigger start screen will give people more tiles to use and support a wide variety of new phones. Also, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor will be supported. One of the other highlighted features is the driving mode, which will limit notifications and help drivers concentrate on the road ahead.
Accessibility features that will allow users to see and hear the phone better were also noted. Improved internet sharing with devices that support Windows 8.1 PC’s or tablets will be easier to setup. Also, users will see more ringtones, no twist and shout, better storage management options, easier ways to close apps, Wi-Fi access out of the box, and better Bluetooth.
Developer Preview Program Announced
What could be bigger than the phone release itself, was the announcement of the Windows Phone Preview for Developers. This brand new program which was launched late Monday, will give developers earlier access to operating system updates and the ability to verify that their apps work with the new coding from Microsoft.
Developers will need to have developer-unlocked phones to use this service, and be registered Windows Phone Store developers to access the developer preview program. This new program is geared 100% towards getting developers the software early, and making sure that their are no bugs when the apps are released to the public.
These brand new updates and the developer program is huge for Windows Phone. It shows that Microsoft still cares about the developers, and wants to improve Windows Phone as much as they possibly can.
