EIGHT Metro UI Style Firefox Start Screen Plugin

Use The EIGHT Browser Theme To Get The Windows 8 Metro UI Look

Windows 8 and the Metro UI have made everyone excited about the upcoming OS and its bevy of brand new features. In the wake of this, several third party developers have come up with small yet useful OS modification, browser themes, sidebar themes and other utilities that will give you some Windows 8 features on your current Windows 7 machine. This time we look at one such utility called EIGHT — an app to give you the Metro UI look and feel inside your browser.

The following is a plugin that was created by a developer called L’ubomír Krupa for the Firefox browser from Mozilla. It gives you a Metro like tiled theme that should give you a clue what Windows 8 might look and feel like. In addition to that, it also gives you a quick access to all your favorite and frequently visited websites. Very handy! Definitely a good theme for your browser.

Simply put, the Windows 8 theme for Firefox is a modified version of the Firefox start screen and its functionality is similar to those observed on most modern browsers (Chrome, Safari). It is similar to what Safari currently offers as ‘Top Sites’. This plug in is quite customizable. You can easily pin your favorite websites here and replace your default Firefox start screen. However, do not expect this plugin to give you an experience that is anywhere close to what the actual Metro has to offer. This is a very basic plugin but fun to play around with till the Windows 8 beta arrives in February.
