What Is The Windows 8 N Edition? Amazon Got It All Wrong!
Apparently some Amazon employees messed up the descriptions. The Windows 8 N edition does not include the Media Player
Here is a recent screenshot from Amazon’s UK page:
THIS IS WRONG: The “Windows 8 N Edition” comes with Windows Media Player, allowing you to choose your own media player and software required to manage and play CDs, DVDs
This is very confusing for people who do not know why they are selling this edition in the EU. The European Commission wanted Microsoft to provide a copy of Windows without the Windows Media Player to make sure consumers have a chance to buy a “clean” OS without Microsoft products (for a thriving competition)
Microsoft is selling the Windows 8 N edition for a very high price, but here’s why you should not bother. Even if Microsoft includes the Media Player in the regular upgrade edition you can still install your own media player without any hassles. It’s not like any other media player won’t work on Windows 8. They all work just fine, so there is no reason at all to spend any money on the N edition
