The website vgchartz.com provides weekly charts. They’re not always accurate, but they’re very conservative and they’re useful to keep track of games sales. This is useful for investors or people who simply like to know what company is currently HOT.

Well, from what I’ve seen the last few weeks, I can tell that Nintendo is doing extremely well, but also Microsoft is reporting record breaking game sales. Even Sony is reporting nice sales.

But let’s take a look at the charts provided by http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/40881/Global/

Casual Games Sell More Units Than Hardcore Games

Mario Kart 7 is selling like hot cakes, selling 728,628 units in one week. Amazing stuff! Casual games sell a lot more units than games made for the hardcore gamer audience e.g. Saints Row 3 – however particularly Saints Row 3 is doing extremely well and will make THQ investors happy.

Kinect Adventures, Just Dance are two other casual games that are doing extremely well.

Games Industry Will Grow Even More

All in all, it’s pretty amazing how well the games industry is doing, breaking new records every other year. Revenue for the next few years is also expected to grow. Zynga and EA are the big winners of this trend, but also a lot of Indie developers are pushing forward.

It never has been a better time to start a company that makes games. Tools like Unity 3D allow every enthusiast to create their first game after a few months of hard work.
