There’s one game you need to know about from Ubisoft’s conference: Rayman Legends. Other top games include Assassin’s Creed 3, Shootmania and Far Cry 3
In My Opinion, the Best conference Thus Far. Ubisoft Unveiled Some Gorgeous, and Exciting, Games
If you were watching Ubisoft’s conference, you probably weren’t expecting Flo-Rida to cover tracks in Dance Central. It was the kind of love-it-or-hate-it mood Ubisoft would continue to portray, with gorgeous games.
First up, Far Cry 3. And Ubisoft didn’t spare blushes opening with a, well, erotic scene to say the least. That seemed to be the antagonist, Vas, and the perspective quickly switched to the protagonist, who we don’t know. Gameplay showed the characters slowly moving from the jungle, swimming underwater to pull an enemy under the water and drown. Showing more bow-and-arrow combat, the player shot enemies from behind as a base was infiltrating. We also saw the development team’s obsessions with drug-enhancing gameplay, which alters the world and even caused wrong decisions to be made. Before the demo finished, we saw what appeared to be Vas. Instead he was a regular civilian, who the protagonist shot.
Next, my personal favorite: Rayman Legends. If you haven’t seen the gameplay footage, please go and watch it. It was awesome, because the art style returns – and seemed to be enhanced for temporary 2.5D perspectives – while we got to see with Wii U tablet functionality. It’s basically down to swiping on the screen to remove obstacles and collect lums. The ending section was a rhythm platforming section, and there’s one way to describe it: they’re doing Sonic the Hedgehog better than Sonic.
Assassin’s Creed 3 was next, in my opinion showing an underwhelming CG trailer followed by gameplay footage. It was based in a snow-covered environment, hanging enemies from trees and killing wolves. It looked more like killing to survive, and not action-filled assassinatins. The game also takes place across 30 years, the summer and winter, and different environment. We didn’t get to really see how the environment impacts gameplay, which ahs been rumored. Also new was the ability to climb up trees and assassinate enemies from above, trying them to trees.
We saw Shootmania, the successor the Trackmania, which could be great if adopted by the community. We saw a pro match, with Counterstrike players, and it looked very precise an and fast to use. Whether MLG would adopt it is another question entirely.
