There is speculation there will be 2 different Assassin’s Creed games next year but they have stated they are not afraid of delaying future releases to ensure they live up to the standard of the series so far.
Ubisoft Announce New Assassin’s Creed Games
After getting used to seeing and playing one new Assassin’s Creed game every year we could now be seeing two in 2014! The yearly additions to the series haven’t been warmly received by everyone in the gaming community and there are fears that quality may be sacrificed to ensure the games are released on time.
Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag did prove a success however with fans and critics but at what point does franchise fatigue actually set in for the series? Not right at this moment for Ubisoft it appears.
We of course have seen multiple versions of Assassins Creed in one year before if you take into account the mobile releases – this proposition is a little different however as it is rumoured that there will be one game specifically built for both the current and next generation consoles to maximize the experience.
Ubisoft Prepared to Delay New Assassins Creed Games
Those worrying whether Ubisoft will be sacrificing quality for quantity however should take a quick glance over at what the company’s approach has been to Watch Dogs.
Despite being marked as a system seller and coming with huge expectations the company delayed the game till after the holiday season and into the New Year. It is now clear that Ubisoft are prepared to take the same approach with any new Assassin’s Creed releases if necessary as well. According to North American President Laurent Detoc it is all about protecting the “brand”
“If we think we’ve ended up with a 70 percent Assassin’s Creed game, we’re not going to ship it. That damages the brand. I’m not going to give you the names of products, because you know them as well as I do, but if you start to make games at 70 percent, even with a big brand, eventually people are going to change their mind about that brand. They won’t want it anymore. That’s what saves the recurrence.”
What’s Next For Assassins Creed Franchise?
It is important to note that at the moment nothing has been confirmed either way about the possibility of two releases next year. The fact is though, if correct, there would be little surprise among the gaming community.
Is this a good thing? Assassins Creed has certainly proven to be a ground breaking series but are Ubisoft at risk of milking it a little too much and are they better off focusing on other projects such as the upcoming Watch Dogs and maybe return to the series when there is a stronger demand?
Well Assassins Creed 4 is still selling well so at the moment that demand is there – whether that remains the same by this time next year remains to be seen. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is available for all current and next gen consoles along with PC.
