343 Industries announced it will support a Halo 4 competitive tournament a week before the game goes live. It will be an early look at the final build of Halo 4, after 343 Industries’ Frank O’Connor said during E3 the studio had seven weeks to finish the anticipated title.
If you fancy playing Halo 4 before anyone else, and potentially win stuff, then get over to Texas during the beginning of November
343 Industries pushed Halo 4 out at E3 2012, of course, and later at community events like the Rooster Teeth Expo and is showing the game at the Eurogamer Expo in September. We now know where the game could make its final appearance before heading to retail: at an MLG tournament in Dallas, Texas.
The tournament runs from November 2-4, ending just two days before the game launches worldwide, and is part of Major League Gaming’s Fall championship. You’ll also be able to see games like Starcraft 2 in tournament, though you may have no idea what’s happening.
It will be interesting to watch the tournament, streaming online, as we’ll know what 343 Industries changed. Personally speaking I’d like to see the Promethean Vision armor ability have a short range. Watch the gameplay demo (below) and you’ll see how the ability goes out as far as the player can see
Halo saw a rock relationship with Major League Gaming during the previous instalment, Halo: Reach. The CEO of MLG said the game is a disgrace to the Halo franchise, even threatening to pull the game from competitive gaming. That probably won’t happen considering Halo’s big presence in MLG and the sheer backlash it’d cause.
Halo: Reach also received extensive tweaking for the MLG community by the MLG community. Movement speed is faster to resemble Halo 2 and Halo 3, the recoil-simulating bloom’s gone, armor abilities become pick-ups (except for armor locks — that’s unbalanced), and maps received changes. The core gameplay in Halo 4 looks solid, at least, so hopefully MLG won’t significantly alter the experience
Who knows what map we’ll see by then. 343 Industries is remaining quiet on the campaign though three maps are know thus far: Haven, Adrfit, and Longbow. I bet we’ll see a few more by November.
Halo 4 releases November 6 on Xbox 360.
