The much awaited Star Wars the Old Republic (SWTOR) was finally released by BioWare and EA on the 20th December and it already boasts over a million registered players.
The reviews from the fans have been generally good indicating that the game is set to see more players registering next year.
The Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) based on the Star Wars Universe was developed by veteran RPG developer BioWare and Lucas Arts. It is supposed to have a huge fan community and in fact it is reported that it is the fastest growing subscription MMORPG of all time. It is also speculated that EA plans to limit the supply of the popular game to increase the numbers steadily and at the same time provide a fulfilling gaming experience to the players who are already registered. There were a few gamers who had Early Game Access which allowed them to play SWTOR a week before the launch of the game.
Some of the official stats have been revealed by BioWare which confirm the immense popularity of the game. It seems players have already created over 3.8 million characters and more specifically according to their alignment there are supposed to be 550,000 Sith Warriors and 510,000 Jedi Knights. The gamers have clocked in an average time of 5 hours per day. While taking into account the period since Early Game Access then around 2 billion NPCS have been pawned. The most astonishing aspect of the statistics is that in a short period of time, all players combined have logged in 28 million hours in-game.
Critic’s take on the game
The game has received largely positive reviews from various gaming websites like G4, IGN and Metacritic. The game has been applauded by many critics for introducing new gameplay elements which will take Online Role-playing genre to the next level. BioWare has employed the use of a compelling story and voiced characters to provide a very enthralling experience to the gamers. Star Wars: the Old Republic was given 5/5 by G4 and it received a score of 87 on Metacritic.
Co-Founder of BioWare, Ray Muzyka appreciated the enthusiastic reception that Star Wars: the Old Republic has received. He added that they also intend to introduce many other new features and content next year to provide an engaging gaming experience to their fans.
