Surface 2 Event September 23rd

Much of the speculation in recent weeks surrounding the next version of the Surface has kicked up in the past week. Now we know that Microsoft has scheduled a press event for September 23rd for the Surface 2!

The Surface 2 as it will be called has been rumored a ton in the past week, with specs and accessories being leaked like crazy. Not much isn’t known about the unit, but the September 23rd date will give us all a chance to view it and see possible pricing on it.

Specs On Surface 2

According to many rumor sites and Microsoft authority sites, the Surface 2 will have the next-generation TEGRA processor inside. Along with a 10.6 inch ClearType Full HD Screen at, it will have an 8 hour battery and weigh 1.5 pounds. It will stand .37 inches, which is about what the current Surface RT is like.

Features Of The Surface 2

Some of the key features of the Surface 2 will include Windows RT 8.1, new white color (possibly as an option), VaporMg casing, integrated two-position kickstand, ClearType Full HD display, front- and rear-facing cameras, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11, full-sized USB 3.0 port, micro-SD expansion up to 64 GB, HD video-out port, includes Office Home & Student 2013 RT (with Outlook RT).

Price Still Unknown

While the specs on the unit have been leaked about like crazy, the retail partners and pricing of the units has not. They need to under cut Apple and Google, and whether that is done is still unknown. The $499 price last time was good, but didn’t sell enough units, so maybe at $399 they could sell more, and with a keyboard this time around.

These moves by Microsoft show that the future is mobile and that they want to get the Surface 2 units out by the holiday season. As enterprises spend money towards the end of the year, it also shows them Microsoft’s commitment to the tablet market and its future. Whether or not this plan works or not is still unsure, but Microsoft and the Surface 2 should be revealed later this month in New York.
