Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 Official

Microsoft on Monday made the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 official at a lavish press conference in New York early in the morning. The debuts of these much rumored devices got the tech press and gadget lovers interested, but left price points left to be judged.

The introduction of these two exciting tablets have been rumored for a while. While many of the specs were known, the prices were not. Microsoft has priced both units within the iPad ranges, but gives customers a lot more power and options than they have had before.

Microsoft Announces Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 Units In New York on Monday

The Surface 2

The Surface 2 is the next generation Surface tablet from Microsoft and ships with a ton of new specs. Starting with a NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor, a 10.6-inch ClearType Full HD display with 1090p video, full-size USB 3.0 port, a 3.5-megapixel camera and 5-megapixel rear camera, and improved low-light performance. The Surface 2 will ship with Windows RT 8.1 and give users a cloud experience with the Xbox Music and other built in apps. The Surface 2 is priced at $449 and available in 32GB and 64GB options.

The Surface Pro 2

The Surface Pro 2 is the professional Windows tablet, and is a true laptop replacement. It will give users the full Microsoft Office suite, let users run their desktop apps on the go and is more powerful than before. It has the fourth-generation i% processor and 75 percent longer battery life than the original Surface Pro. It will start at $899 and be available in 64GB and 128GB configurations with 4GB of RAM and 256GB and 512GB configurations with 8GB of RAM.

Along with the announcements of the new Surface units, Microsoft announced a ton of new accessories for the Surface units. From the Touch Cover 2, the Type Cover 2, a Power Cover with built in battery, the Docking Station for Surface Pro, the Wireless Adapter For Typing Covers, the Car Charger with USB, and lastly the Arc Touch Mouse Surface Edition. The Surface is available for preorders starting today, and now the rumors can be just that, as the new generation Surface units from Microsoft are here and ready to start shipping in October.
