Sony confirm to Game Informer Sly Cooper: Thieves in Times is set for Fall release
Sly Cooper, the long-running platform title that allows players to control master thief Sly Cooper, has now been confirmed to have a fourth title in the franchise coming later this year. Sony confirmed to Game Informer that the fourth entry in the franchise is set for release this Fall, though no specific date was given.
The game, a PlayStation 3 exclusive, is being developed by Sanzaru Games and not the developers of the original trilogy Sucker Punch Productions. Sanzaru Games previously ported the original trilogy to the PlayStation 3, in a HD collection called The Sly Trilogy.
Announced at E3 2011, Thieves in Time is a sequel to Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves and follows on from the ending Thieves. Sly Cooper returns with his gang to track down and recover the Thievius Racoonus, a book chronicling the Cooper family line that has been lost in time. Players control Sly, Bentley and Murray as they track down parts of the book.
The game is still based around platforming and features the cel-shaded art style from the previous games. When controlling Sly Cooper players are equipped with a cane. They can run, jump and perform attacks on enemies. Players can also run along thin railings, land on narrow platforms, and sneak around undetected. Thieves in Time will introduce collectible costumes, giving Sly a different set of abilities. Sly is given a suit of armour costume that includes a shield to reflect projectiles back at a foe. Another example of an outfit Sly can wear is a gypsy outfit to slow down time temporarily. These costumes also allow players to go back and revisit areas to gain collectibles and access areas they previously could not get to.
The game features a central hub, launching missions from points within the hub, which then take players to that level, with worlds now three times the size of the originals.
It had also been revealed that there is a compass to help players navigate within the hub worlds. It had also been confirmed Bentley is still in a wheelchair, like in the previous game.
