Resident Evil 6 Features Extensive Co-Op Mode

Resident Evil 6 Coop Mode.jpg 1In a surprising move, the first trailer for Resident Evil 6 has been launched and reveals an ambitious release date for this November.

Along with a lengthy trailer, Capcom shared details on where and when the sixth installment in the franchise will take place:

“It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident, and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is … Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time … Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.”

Exciting features in Resident Evil 6

The trailer itself shows Kennedy meeting with the President before the said announcement, only to seemingly kill an infected President from an unconfirmed virus epidemic (which, according to the trailer, affects 90% of the population). We also see Resident Evil 6 taking us around the world, with Tokyo being a key location and where players could meet Chris Redfield for the first time. It has been confirmed that both Kennedy and Redfield are playable characters within Resident Evil 6.

Resident Evil 6 has been described as representing “a giant stride forward in the evolution of the series” according to Katsuhiko Ichii, Heard of R&D and Global Marketing at Capcom. Ichii also described the “development team, led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi,” as “working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values.”

Huge co-op options confirmed

Lots of information has surfaced after the debut trailer. Among these are confirmations of two-six player co-op, with two-eight player online multiplayer. The game has also been confirmed to have a new Gears of Wars-esque cover system on Twitter, as seen in the trailer, with the game apparently taking place in 2013 and 10 years after the Raccoon City incident (though this information conflicts) according to A demo has also been confirmed, due in the “coming months.”

The Resident Evil Twitter account has explained that the development team is made up of 150 people, with a total of 600 when outsourcing and support staff are considered. The development team have also been “working on the title for 2 years.”

Resident Evil 6 is set for release on 20 November, 2012, for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 and later for PC.
