Since Resident Evil Afterlife was so popular with gaming fans and horror fans alike, director Paul W.S. Anderson decided to work with Sony on another movie. So far there have been four Resident Evil movies with a different plotline than the games.

The Resident Evil Movie Series – Successful Movies With Unrelated Plot

The Resident Evil movies have not focused mainly on characters from the video games; instead, new characters were created and the Resident Evil world was used for the setting. The main character in all four Resident Evil movies has been Alice, played by Milla Jovovich. While many critics found flaws with the films, gamers have kept the series alive and thriving. In fact, the fourth movie, Resident Evil: Afterlife, opened number 1 worldwide on its release date, bringing in almost $28 million in the opening weekend alone. The success of this film may have impacted the decision to continue on and make a fifth movie.

Many sources have helped to confirm that there is going to be another Resident Evil installment in the blockbuster series. Milla Jovovich, who is the wife of director Paul W.S. Anderson, has stated that they are “definitely going to make another one”. There has also been a teaser trailer of the Resident Evil 5 movie released, which can be taken as an unofficial announcement of the new film. So, while there has been no official announcement or release date for Resident Evil 5, chances are high that plans are being made and production is in the making.

Resident Evil 5 Movie – Another 3D Movie?

Like Resident Evil: Afterlife, it is thought that Resident Evil 5 is going to be available to watch in 3D as well. This probably has a lot to do with the success of the Afterlife film. Another new feature that has been mentioned is that director Paul W.S. Anderson wants to include fan favorite character Leon S. Kennedy in the next film. This character is from the video game series, appearing as the lead in both the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 games. This could potentially bring in more fans of the game that have not yet been able to get into the Resident Evil movies.

Getting Fans Involved in the Development

For the Resident Evil 5 movie, both the director and leading actress are asking fans to give them insight as to what they want to see in the film using online social networking sites like Twitter. The hope is that the movie will then be able to include more of what the fans want to see, such as new characters, plot twists, and more. In the motion picture industry, this is a new, innovative and interactive process that will hopefully allow the Resident Evil 5 movie to do even better in the box office then Afterlife.

Regardless of what critics think, the Resident Evil movie series is always going to be popular due to its following of gaming fans. While it is not known how many Resident Evil movies there are going to be total, at this point it can be assured that there will be a fifth installment in the popular series.
