A video that apparently shows a Sony PlayStation 4 freezing due to overheating has emerged online sparking worries about the consoles functionality.
PlayStation 4 Overheating Video Emerges
After the controversial RROD and YLOD issues that plagued early Xbox 360s and PlayStation 3s – consumers are sure to be more alert to any design malfunction and issues this time.
They will not want a repeat of faulty launch units and many have even insisted on holding off ordering the new consoles until a few months after launch to ensure there is no functionality issues like before.
For this very reason Sony can expect a highly amplified negative reaction to a video showing their new flagship console – the PlayStation 4 – apparently malfunctioning due to overheating issues.
Short Video Could Lead To Sony PR Disaster
The short video which runs for about one and a half minutes comes from a French Outlet by the name of Gamekyo.
In the video one of the presenters can be clearly seen placing his hand over the gaming console as he notice it emitting heat before the co-presenter follows and agrees that the console appears to be overheating.
Seconds later the game starts freezing and then returns with a complete stop start framerate. This led to an awkward moment where the tried to circumvent the issue by going in and out of the “home” ecosystem to no avail. The video ends as they restart the game in front of the Sony Representative.
Could Design Issues Be At Fault For PS4 Overheating
Is it possible that the design of the console itself could lead to possible overheating issues? It has recently emerged that the final design of the PlayStation 4 was initially completely different.
PS4’s Chief Designer recently told PlayStations blog;
“When we started the product design for PS4, we didn’t start by thinking about what the shape would be,” Sumii said. “It was more about how we were going to create a new brand identity through the product.”
“I think the PlayStation brand image needs to be changed a little bit, as it’s a new console, and we have to show what we’re pointing towards for the future,” he continued. “So I thought it should be one of the most smart, cool, and intelligent products from Sony. Not just from Sony Computer Entertainment, but the company as a whole.”
