Microsoft Launches New Wireless Display Adapter

Having content on your phone, tablet, or mobile device is a great thing. Many of us have pictures and videos that we love to enjoy on our own, but want to share it with others on a larger screen. On Tuesday, Microsoft announced a new Wireless Display Adapter, which brings Miracast home to many.

Miracast is the technology that allows images and videos to be transmitted wirelessly to devices. Microsoft has supported Miracast with Windows 8.1, but hasn’t had official hardware for it, and now is bringing it out themselves for mobile and professional users to try out and utilize.

Microsoft Announces New Wireless Display Adapter

How Device Works

The Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter is a very simple deviece, and it connect to an HDTV, monitor, or projector. With it, users with a Miracast-enabled device can share content to that display. So, with a PC, tablet, or other Windows 8.1 device, this means easily shared content on a larger screen.

Audio can also be shared to the Miracast supported device, so a person will be able to show off family pictures, favorite videos, a favorite song, or anything else. A user just needs to plug in the USB end and the HDMI end into the display source. Choose the input, pair it with your device, and easily share content whenever needed, making it a ton easier than before.

Competition With Google’s Chromecast

While this is a new Windows focused device, it does go right up against Google’s Chromecast device. The Google device also plugs into the back of the HDMI port, and allows users to share images, web pages, videos, and anything else on a much larger screen. This new Microsoft device does exactly the same thing, but easier.

This device also gives Microsoft a way into the living room, as many people don’t have large devices or spaces to plug in big equipment. This small pluggable device goes into the port quickly, allows for easy sharing, and can be left in the display source for a long period of time. It’s a very simple device to use, and will making sharing videos, photos, and other media a ton easier. It is available for pre-order for $59.95 and will be available for delivery in October.

This is a funky yet neat device. I love my Chromecast, but will pick this up as well.
