Guild Wars 2: Final Beta Weekend Kicks Off – The How, Where, And Why

When Does The Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend Start

ArenaNet is opening its virtual doors to players who have pre-purchased Guild Wars 2, the company’s free-to-play MMORPG, releasing August 28. If you haven’t pre-purchased, you can still get access.

We’re unbelievably excited for Guild wars (well, maybe it’s just me), and here’s what you need to know about the final beta weekend

Right, a at 12PM PDT today – Friday, June 20 – the final and probably most hyped Guild Wars 2 beta weekend begins. We’ve covered what’s new – the sylvari and asura races, notably – but here’s how you can get access the third – and final – beta weekend.

If You Have Pre-Purchased

If you’ve paid for Guild Wars 2, via ArenaNet’s website or a retailer offering beta codes, then you just need to download the client (approximately 14GB) and update. That could take a few hours depending on your connection – at just under 1MB/sec when downloading, on a 5-7GB connection, it took me about eight hours – and you’ll need to set up an account.

When Does The Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend Start

Setting up an account is pretty easy if you follow the e-mail ArenaNet should have sent you after buying the title. Otherwise, just head to and sign up there. You can link an original Guild Wars account, if you want, for access to the Hall of Monument rewards when the game arrives in August.

If You Haven’t Pre-Purchased

Don’t fancy spending money on a game you may not like? Well, I don’t know why you wouldn’t like Guild Wars 2, but codes are being given out. There are a multitude of sites giving out codes, including ArenaNet themselves, via social networks. This is pretty much luck, unfortunately, and the most reliable way to get into the beta is by effectively pre-ordering the title. Some users reported buying the game via Amazon allowed codes to be gained without paying money (you pre-order games, but they’re not debited until shipped), however this hasn’t been verified.

When And How

The final beta weekend begins at 12PM PDT, as mentioned, and getting in is as simple as starting the launcher and entering log-in details. There wasn’t much trouble getting into the second beta weekend at the beginning despite the issues during the first beta weekend.
