Microsoft confirmed that you will be able to put Windows 7 on a USB drive to install it on netbooks and laptops that lack a DVD drive.
Sidenote: You can download Windows 7 through Microsoft’s own store, so you don’t even have to buy a DVD. I suppose this edition might be slightly cheaper, too. If you want to save some bucks, you shouldn’t miss this chance!
Brandon LeBlanc Quote:
“For netbook users without DVD drives, the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool [WUDT] will take an ISO image and create a bootable USB device that can be used to install Windows 7”
“The WUDT can also create a Windows 7 installation DVD from the ISO file as well.”
Brandon also underlined that you should be familiar with your BIOS, because you will have to change the boot order in order to boot from your USB drive.I have explained this process here: Verify Windows 7 Boot Order
