Xbox One developers have been waiting for great tools to be delivered to them from Microsoft, and their patience has been a grumbled one. On Thursday, Microsoft announced that [email protected] Developers wil be getting the Unreal Engine 4 for Xbox One, and will make them very happy.
By giving the indie developer for the Xbox One the Unreal Engine 4, it gives them the tools to make awesome games just like the big studios. The subscription based program will give smaller game companies ways to make huge games for the Xbox One, without huge fees upfront.
What Is Unreal Engine 4?
The Unreal Engine 4 is a rich set of tools that gives content developers a way to create power, gameplay logic, and much more without programming. It is a huge plus for indie developers, and includes the Blueprint visual scripting system, a visual material editor, the Persona animation system, and Matinee timeline-based machinima and cinematics.
This latest set of tools is made to give independent game developers same of the most up to date tools that they would ever want. The next generation console makes the Xbox One the system to develop games for, and now with access to the Unreal Engine, will make games easier to make and look awesome as well.
Only $19 Per Month
What makes this announcement from Microsoft even more amazing is that it only costs a game developer $19 per month for the Unreal Engine 4. It is the full engine and source, and is available for PC and Mac’s. The Unreal Engine 4.1 comes with full support for the Xbox One and Playstation 4 at no extra cost, and has a ton of features.
For a smaller developer, a $19 per month cost to get access to this much technology is simply jaw dropping in many ways. Microsoft makes this possible via deals with Unreal, but also is aiming to make indie game developers wanting to develop for the Xbox One. Microsoft angered some indie game makers early on, but with this announcement will get them interested once again.
I’ve never built a game, but for $19 per month I might try. Great games can be made by anyone, and now for $19 per month, you can too for the Xbox One from Microsoft.
