Asus Windows 8 Tablet Pricing

We don’t really know what Windows 8 devices to expect, apart from the ThinkPad and Microsoft’s Surface devices (at least, the devices that have interested us). Three Asus devices, including price and specifications, leaked to technology website ZDNet.

The first is the ASUS Vivio Tab RT (RT denotes Windows RT, the feature-limited version of Windows 8).

The Facts – Price and Specs

  • It will start at $599 with a dock available for $199,
  • is pre-loaded with Office 2013,
  • uses a 10.1-inch Super IPS+ Panel display,
  • includes a Nvidia Tegra 3 Quad-core CPU,
  • and an optional keyboard dock provides extended battery life.

The second device is the ASUS Vivio Tab. Using Windows Pro probably, it is more expensive at $799 (again with the aforementioned dock), and runs Modern UI and Desktop UI. Microsoft Office is preloaded with a trial version, seemingly the wrong move for the higher price. An 11.6-inch Super IPS+ Panel display features with an Intel Atom Z2760 CPU and an Optional Mobile Dock.

Prices Seem Expensive Compared To Competition

Finally, the ASUS Taichi is the priciest at $1,299. It includes a 11.6-inch dual Full HD IPS panel display with a resolution. It sports two screens to be used a tablet and laptop, including Bang & Olufsen IcePower Audio Technology, and both displays are multi-touch. Asus mentions easier sharing between two users, so it’ll be interesting to see if two users can use one screen from the device with different accounts.

The device seems expensive when compared to the competition. Regardless of your feelings towards Apple the iPad is the market leader. It retails for $399 with the new iPad, and $329 for the iPad 2. The Asus tablets are at least $200 more and up to triple the price. Consumers will probably balk at that price.

Hopefully Microsoft will unveil a range of devices before the Windows 8 launch. during the launch of Windows Phone it showed numerous devices, so we should know what to expect from October 26.

Windows 8 launches October 26, with a possible launch event October 25. HT
