The first Halo 4 details have been unveiled. Cortana will be back in part 4 and campaign locations are going to be a lot larger
Multiplayer changes for Halo 4 have been revealed as 343 Industries looks to shake up the formula
Outside of the Vidoc trailer last month, Halo fans have been eagerly waiting for news on the upcoming title. While the magazine isn’t officially out until tomorrow, GameInformer leaks have revealed details on the campaign and multiplayer and have provoked passionate responses among the community.
The first part of the magazine details the campaign, minor spoilers are ahead. The issue confirmed that, four years after the events of Halo 3, Master Chief is awakened by Cortana after the ship – Forward Unto Dawn, which was split in two at the end of Halo 3 – crash lands on a mysterious planets. During those four years Chief’s armour has been modified as Cortana has used the ship to improve the MJOLNIR Mark VI armour. Cortana herself has also modified her appearance.
The magazine confirms that the planet does relate to the Forerunners – the creators of the Halo rings – and is surrounded by a sphere called the “Dyson Sphere” (leading to it being called a “Shield World”). This surrounds the planet, and protected it from the explosion of the Halo rings in Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 3.
The Covenant return
Cortana awakened Master Chief as there are intruders on Forward Unto Dawn. This is confirmed to be the Covenant, with the game presenting players with a familiar experience as they kill Grunts and Elites. However, 343 Industries have stressed that the main enemy isn’t the Covenant but something currently unknown. The Covenant will be there, but as a familiar face rather than the focus. Bare in mind the Shield World is potentially light years away from Earth, which the Covenant invaded, and the other Halo rings, so Covenant forces are probably few in numbers of the World.
GameInformer also reported that campaign locations are going to be a lot larger than those Halo 2, 3 and even Reach. Each Halo title since Combat Evolved has produced linear experience. 343 says this will change, and hints of that can be seen from the concept art showing off encountering a brand-new landscape (reminiscent of the landing on the Halo ring in Combat Evolved).
