Grand Theft Auto 5 to set the bar higher than ever before

Grand Theft Auto 5 is set to be the last blockbuster to be released on the current generation and the team behind the game are under no illusions – they know they have to release the best GTA yet.

Grand Theft Auto 5 set to be in high demand despite new generation on the horizon

Coming out of E3 all the furore was about the next generation console war between Xbox One and PS4 but it easy to forget there is still life in the current gen yet.

In fact it is often towards the end of a console generation cycle that we will see the very best of what that console can offer as developers know exactly what they can and cannot do along with unique ways to overcome any potential shortcomings.

With over 120 million current generation consoles in peoples home, one things for sure – Rockstar will have a huge market for their latest GTA as long as they can reach and surpass expectations.

Grand Theft Auto 5 will be the most ambitious of the series

The game will feature more vehicles, the biggest open world map to date and in a change of pace for Rockstar – 3 playable characters.

The map itself is bigger than the worlds of Red Dead Redemption, GTA: San Andreas and GTA IV – combined! It is also going to be more “alive” than any previous GTA with Rockstar taking inspiration from the amazing Red Dead Redemption landscape and including wildlife and the like. Previews have also commentated on the underwater detail and scuba diving that is possible in GTA V and adds a dimension to the game that is usually neglected or bland in comparison

The three playable characters – Michael,Trevor and Frankling – also promise to add a new twist to the series and will have a huge effect on how the storyline and pacing is set out.

It will also have a major impact on the gameplay with individual characthers excelling at specific activities whether it is flying aeroplanes or shooting down people “Dead-eye” style akin to that seen in Max Payne and Red Dead.

Police to be smarter in Grand Theft Auto 5

One of the most cherished gameplay elements of the GTA series is the relationship with the police and their ever increasing pursuit of you while you innocently build up your wanted level by mowing down pedestrians with a tank you found lying around in the military barracks.

This time round you, you may need to think twice before antagonising the police force. Or at least think twice on how you’re going to avoid them as they are set to use advanced driving tactics and seek higher ground for better visibility as they attempt to track you down.

Not long to wait

The next eagerly anticipated addition to the Grand Theft Auto series is scheduled for release on September 17th on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
