According to some freshly leaked news about the Windows 8 Release Preview build, it will come in four different editions.
Windows 8 To Have Four Different Release Preview Editions
Microsoft has been working hard to keep the leaks and rumors at bay but it’s hard to hide when so many people have access to early builds outside the company. And so, we get to know about the different versions of Windows 8 Release Preview just as June draws nearer. The Release Preview edition will apparently have four different editions, each aimed at a different audience.
Out of these four editions, three will be variations on available components on the main Windows 8 OS — Windows 8 Core, Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8 WMC. That last one is the Windows 8 version that has everything and also has the Media Center available. The fourth version will be a specially made Chinese edition. And each of these SKU’s will have 32- and 64-bit versions. So that’s a total of 8 possible downloadable files.
No official Preview build will be offered for Windows RT, as alreadt clarified by Microsoft earlier in to the game. The only way customers would be able to see Windows RT is by purchasing an ARM-based Windows 8 machine. And that can be a tablet, laptop or even desktop. But we can expecte leaked version to pop up online as soon Microsoft starts distributing the OS to OEMs. Windows RT will be completely handled by the OEMs, along with the upgrading.
This leaked information comes from the good folks over at Winunleaked.tk who have posted a screenshot showing Build 8400 as proof of what they are claiming. And this screenshot also shows translucent borders, which means Windows Aero might not be completely out of the equation yet.
