Doom 4 hasn’t been officially announced, but it certainly seems to be in development
Approx. Release Date: TBA
We don’t know when Doom 4 will be released, but leaked images suggest the game is in development
Doom 4 has been in the rumour mill for a while, but we don’t know when it will be releasing or what for. However, new images that have surfaced online suggest the game is at least in development.
The screenshots don’t know show off characters or enemy types, but do show off environments. We can see what appear to be ruined cities, abandoned industrialised areas, dust-covered cities and blood-ridden houses. Whether these are areas players visit is unconfirmed, but they at least hint towards the art direction and atmosphere we can expect in the next Doom.
Even though the original 4chan thread where the image surfaced has been closed, Google searching the images take you to Japanese website (games.playwares.com) where the images were posted January 17. That was well before 4chan posted them last month.
A second update on the images, after they were released, came from Game Informer’s News Editor Jim Reilly. Simply, on Twitter, no February 12, Reilly said: “Bethesday says Doom 4 is not canceled.”
A third update on the news came on February 29, three days ago, when 120 leaked images appeared online to download at allgamesbeta.com. The images showed off what the first images didn’t: characters models, male and female, showing a variety of weapons equipped by some of the models. The models appear to show of some kind of soliders, and a civilian type character. The image can be downloaded in a .rar file, which is linked on the page.
However, these images were debunked on the same day. id Software’s design director, Matthew Hooper, said that “Those images have nothing to do with what you’re going to see in Doom 4 with what you’re gonna see in Doom 4.” He went on the say that when official content was revealed, it would be “awesome,” so it appears the leaked images are bogus.
Doom 4 has been confirmed to be using id Software’s id Tech 5 engine, used in last year’s Rage. The game is planned for release on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
