Developers Respond To Titanfall Multiplayer Cap Concerns

Titanfall is one of the most anticipated next-generation games coming out, but concerns of the online multiplayer have had to be addressed by the game’s developers.

6X6 Player Count For Titanfall Multiplayer

Online multiplayer is obviously an integral part of games nowadays. Respawn Entertainment are attempting to blur the gap between single player and online multiplayer with their release of Titanfall.

They are hoping this will add a significant amount of replayability to the game and make it playable all year round. Obviously with the game so focused on the multiplayer experience, fans were querying how many players would be able to take part at once.

Vince Zampella, who is the game’s co-creator told fans recently on Twitter that they can expect 12 players on each map at any given time, which for many was seen as disappointing for an online focused title.

Titanfall Developers Respond Strongly To Multiplayer Cap Criticism

In the same Tweet it was explained that the reason for the cap was not technological but because it provided the best “balance” for gameplay. This was met with a flurry of negative responses and those questioning the merits of the title.

One of the games developers stepped in and backed the restriction with a strong message that aimed to vindicate the move.

“Lots of armchair game designing going on in here. I’d suggest playing before judging a something as insignificant as a number in a vacuum.

“Vince is right – we tried a huge amount of playercounts (all the way down to 1v1 and up quite high) and designed the maps, gameplay mechanics, and entire experience around which played best. If anyone wants to chase the numbers game, perhaps we’re not the experience they’re after? I dunno.

“And FYI, for amount of stuff happening at once in a map you’ll be hard pressed to find a game that keeps the action higher. I literally have to stop playing every few rounds because my heart just can’t take it some times. Remember, you can get out of your Titan and let it roam on AI mode – meaning there can be 12 Pilots wallrunning around, 12 Titans stomping below, and dozens of AI doing their thing.”

Titanfall Promises To Be Action Packed Shooter

It is clear that many commentators on this latest development are ignoring the fact that each of the 6 pilots will come with 6 gigantic Titans at their side.

This could make even the largest battlefields dwindle in size with so much action happening at once.

The developers behind Titanfall are continually stressing how the gameplay allows for different strategies that make nearly every single experience unique. It still remains to be seen what role artificial intelligence will play in the title, but these are the issues that must be tackled as Respawn try to blur the lines between single and online gameplay
