Black Ops 2 Pre-Orders Top Modern Warfare 3 Days After Announcement

Black Ops 2 Preorder

The Call of Duty machine keeps on turning. Black Ops 2 tops pre-orders of Modern Warfare 3 .. already

Only days after being revealed and pre-orders opened, Black Ops 2 is the most pre-ordered Call of Duty games

We thought the Call of Duty franchise was slowing down after it was revealed sales for Modern Warfare 3 didn’t live up to Black Ops’ figures, but that appears to be an anomaly: Black Ops 2 has set record pre-orders for any Call of Duty game. Ever.

Pre-orders for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 were also ten times the amount of its predecessor, Black Ops. Pre-orders are also 30 percent higher than Modern Warfare 3’s so, when considered, not a huge gain over MW3’s day one pre-order figures.

Modern Warfare 3 set the record for the most pre-ordered game on Amazon. The game is among the top 20 pre-ordered products ever on Amazon, including books and movies.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was announced earlier this week, along with a reveal trailer, after much speculation and reported leaks over different aspects of the title.

What to expect from Black Ops 2

Yesterday we reported on the impressions of the game from those who saw it, so here’s a recap of that report.

The title is set in 2025, decades on from the events ending in 1968 of the original Black Ops. Characters from that game are returning, though, include Alex Mason and Woods. Players will occasionally play in the 1960s as Alex Mason, but will generally play in 2025 as his son: David Mason.

The near future, as it’s being described by the dev team, is built around high tech warfare. This era will be narrated by a much older Woods, who seems cynical about what has become.

A couple of new weapons where shown: a UAV-esque device with four rotors that also fires a machine gun, and what’s best described a miniature tank that resembled a mech off Trenched/Iron Brigade. Since snippets gameplay footage was shown publicly though, we don’t know whether the mech at least is playable. The UAV weapon shows flown by the player, which seems annoying in multiplayer.

The game is set in Los Angeles, amid burning buildings. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 releases November 13 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
