Some of the biggest news from the Microsoft earnings call with analysts was beyond the numbers of the company. One of the biggest comments to analysts on Tuesday, was made by Microsoft’s Satya Nadella about the one future Windows operating system, which drew a lot of interest.
Traditionally, earnings calls and analyst calls from Microsoft are somewhat interesting, but on Tuesday, Satya Nadella made it a lot more interesting. His comments about a one operating system for all screen sizes, is the predawn of a future one Windows system for all devices.
Nadella’s One Windows World
Satya Nadella’s comments during the analyst call was one hundred percent driven to indicate the future of Windows. He stated that he wants to have one operating system to cover all screen sizes. This has been the goal of Microsoft in various rumors, but this is the first time it has been publicly stated.
Nadella’s other comment that Microsoft will streamline the next version of Windows from three operating systems to a single converged operating system, was the biggest comment made during the call. He wants to take the Windows from all different sizes, and make a one Windows operating system for them all to operate from.
Universal Windows Apps Seen
Nadella stated that in the past, Microsoft had multiple teams working on different versions of Windows, and now they have one team with a common architecture. By doing this, Microsoft can scale and create these Universal Windows Apps. They can unify stores, commerce, and developer platforms using this universal approach to development.
This vision of a one Windows operating system has been the goal of Microsoft for some time, and under Steve Ballmer was something that was seen as a future goal. Now, Satya Nadella wants to implement this one Windows operating system across devices, and this can only be positive for the future of Windows. By giving users a single operating system across desktop, mobile, enterprise, and mobile platforms, Windows can only get stronger. Plus, this makes developers happy as they only have to develop apps for one system versus many.
Satya Nadella is quickly becoming an investor favorite at Microsoft. His vision is leading the company, and his actions are as well.
