The Windows App Studio program is something that Microsoft put together to give developers an easy way to create apps on the Windows platform. It has gotten a lot of fanfare and applause, and on Thursday, got a big update to the beta app to please developers.
As much has been talked about with Microsoft, the latest fix for Windows 8.1 has hit the servers, and is available for download. The new Windows 8.1 August update has a number of features built-in, and should be a needed download for all types of users, from simple to advanced.

Windows 7 is the best-selling operating system in history. That doesn’t mean that there is no room for improvements. Microsoft would agree on that, because they are working hard on Windows 8. Here are some of the latest release date rumors and speculations.
Now that Microsoft stopped selling copies of Windows XP, we can start looking forward to Windows 8. We have some great news for you, we might have a release date (approx. year) for Windows 8!
One of our readers, Farhood Kankash sent us some amazing concept screenshots of his personal Windows 8. He put a lot of work into this concept and it really looks like a next-generation operating system by now. But see for yourself:
You voted for your favorite Windows 8 features on our site. Now, let’s take a look at what Microsoft is planning right now for the next Windows installment.
Another very exciting poll is about to end. This time you picked your most-wanted features for Windows.next aka Windows 8. The poll clearly shows that there is a great interest in all of the features, out of 2000+ votes every single feature received at least 100 votes!
So, with a release date for Windows 7 SP1 in sight, I decided that it’s time to bring our Windows 8 Wishlist Project to the next level. Microsoft promised that they will listen to customer feedback in their all-new Windows.next! If you have a great idea for a new feature, suggest it (see poll in sidebar). We’ll be sending the final list to Microsoft for consideration.
The release of Windows 8 is highly anticipated, but what exactly is the release date for Windows 8? Windows 7 hit the shelves in October 2009 and Microsoft will continue to work on a SP1 for some months until Microsoft will be fully working on Windows 8 in June/July 2010 when their new fiscal year begins.
Will you pre-order Windows 8? Of course your answer greatly depends on your opinion about Windows 7. Do you like Windows 7 so far? Are you looking forward to the “next-generation” Windows 8? We want to hear your opinion.
I’ve been using Windows 7 for nearly a year and I am pretty happy with it, but sometimes I still have some unsatisfied wishes and it makes me think about the future of Windows and Microsoft. What is on your Windows 8 wishlist?
.. although some of them might not be that new, because they have been in development for over 2 years by now.
Overall, there are currently 5 new operating systems in development.
Here’s the list:
1. Windows 8 (Windows 7 Successor)
2. Windows Midori (Written entirely in managed code)
3. Windows Singularity (Basically the same as Windows Midori)
4. Windows Azure (Cloud Computing OS)
5. Barrelfish (Multicore OS)
Ok, that might be a shock for some. Here’s another surprise…
Windows 8 will have a completely new interface. This has been confirmed by now. Rumors say that they will even replace the Windows Explorer with something totally new. Because the Windows 7 filesystem is very slow they also plan to include a brand new filesystem. Tests showed that the current Windows 7 filesystem is even slower than XP.
Some of our readers might already know about it: Windows8Themes.org
Now that Microsoft is hiring more people to work on Windows 8, it was time to finally launch Windows8Themes.org.

How would you change Windows 8 if you had a chance to implement whatever you want?
One Windows user thought about that and created a concept for Windows 8 that is simply amazing. He called it the Copenhagen Concept, here’s the video:
Copenhagen User Experience from Copenhagen Concept on Vimeo.
Contact the creator of this concept at [email protected] for inquiries. Maybe you have a passion for usability and design as well and you could team up to come up with some more amazing ideas. I am sure Microsoft has plenty of ideas and full teams who are constantly testing and researching user behaviour, but new ideas can always be an inspiration and help to create the next-generation Windows.
