@OldManOfWindows if windows is releasing every 2 years for stability purposes, what difference does that make from the weekly updates? won't they be basically fixing issues in the existing OS as update or SP?
If they are releasing it more frequently, I hope they don't make us pay for every single one of them. -.-

They will probably release Windows 8 in 2012. A good products needs time for development. Who would buy Windows 8 if it wasn't much more than a slighly enhanced Windows 7 copy? They are focusing on cloud computing now and I hope that we'll see some really new features in Windows 8.

Our users at least have added a lot of wishes to this <a href="http://windows7themes.net/windows-8-wishlist" rel="nofollow">Windows 8 wishlist</a>.

Microsoft has changed their approach to OS development. They are planning to release new OS versions more frequently (i.e. approx every two years instead of every 5 years). The approach is to focus on more frequent, evolutionary changes rather than more extensive and dramatic system wide overhauls. This will allow MS to focus very strongly on stability and security with each release. Personally, if there are less significant changes, then it's less exciting and interesting to my OS geek side. But I think it's absolutely essential that each release of Windows is uber stable and that users can count on it. Everyone was screaming for MS to take the time to prioritize stability and security and with Win 7 they finally did just that and I think the results speak for themselves: I've been using Windows since version 1.0 (for real, though that's not something I should probably admit =:-O ) and the Win 7 beta was the most reliable version they've ever released. In the long run, what I really need is for an OS to be a solid and fast platform for the applications I need to run. All the other OS stuff from the technology to the politics is either just about my IT job or a passionate hobby.
