Windows 8 Allows Easy File Sharing Between Windows Devices

Rumor has it that Windows 8 is bringing back the Zune ‘Squirt’ feature, enabling easy file sharing between multiple Windows devices without complex networking.

Zune’s Squirt direct pairing coming to Windows 8

No More Networking Trouble in Windows 8

Often enough, putting two Windows computers on the same network becomes a challenge for the average, not-so-tech savvy user. This is why a lot of people fell in love with the ‘Squirting’ feature on the discontinued Zune models.

Zune squirting is making a come back in Windows 8. Microsoft had already made it clear that only the Zune hardware is dead. The software lives on inside Windows and Xbox. So finding a Zune feature in the latest Windows should not come as a surprise to anyone.

This feature enables instant direct pairing and file transfer between Windows 8, Windows Phone and Xbox. This is accomplished through good old WiFi, Bluetooth and a relatively new addition called ‘NFC’. All of these help the devices to instantly pair up with each other and share files. Without this in place, connecting a phone, a computer and a game console through regular networking would have been an exercise in frustration. So it shows a lot of deep thinking about user experience on Microsoft’s part.

It is almost certain that this feature will be available in Windows 8 when it releases next year. It is also expected to be on the new version of Xbox that is rumored to be also launching next year. Additionally, it will have to be on Windows Phone 8 (code name Apollo) whenever it does come out. However, seeing as most of it is based on rumors; it is advisable to take everything with a healthy dose of salt and wait for more ‘official’ information to come along.
