Windows 7 and Google Chrome



As I reported yesterday, Mozilla released the latest Firefox 3.5. Which is even faster now. Read more about it here.

But what is Google and Microsoft doing?

There was quite a hype about Google’s Browser Chrome when it had been released, but right now it’s pretty quiet. Of course there are still plenty of people who are still using it, but it surely wasn’t Google biggest success. How could it? On Windows 7, Chrome doesn’t even run properly, there aren’t many plugins (any good at all?) and many people are becoming more careful about trusting Google with everything they do online.

Before I could run Google Chrome on Windows 7 I had to fix it. First I tried to update it, but it wouldn’t even connect to the update server:

After that, I was looking for a fix. Some sites suggested to add “–in-process-plugins” to the .exe

It worked, but my connection was still pretty slow ..so I went straight for the developer edition, which you can grab here.

After closing Chrome, I tried to install it but it seems Google’s browser won’t stop their updating services properly:

In the end the dev edition was working a little bit better, but not much.

Personally, I just don’t see a reason to use Google Chrome!

I don’t want to bash Google, but it’s funny on a “Google Chrome Plugin Forum” one of the hot topics is “Top Firefox plugins that we need in Google Chrome“. Isn’t that a bit pathetic? Imitating firefox just to dominate another market niche? Well, firefox wasn’t built in one day, so if they would come up with something new and fix the major bugs I will use Google Chrome again.

    Total BS! Chrome works perfectly in my Win7. Its more reliable than Firefox which goes “Not Responding” every once in a while.

    Chrome is by far the fastest browser(though Safari does keep up) now. Its revolutionary interface and the way its coded is targeted at the new internet.

    Firefox also took time to get its share of addons. So will chrome. Peace..

    Lucky you. Well, right now it’s not working at all on my PC. Dou you have a proof that Chrome is the fastest browser? It is a indeed a very light browser .. well it’s like Google, very minimalistic.

    I’ll check out some speed benchmarks and see if I can fix Chrome…
    Actually it just annoyed me that I’m not able to use it :<

    I did a fresh OS install today, so maybe more luck now

    That’s weird Chrome works just fine for me too….

    It does seem faster then Firefox but idk for sure.
    It’s hard for me to get by without my FF plugins though so I usually only use it when I’m playing a game and want to browse the net at the same time, because it uses less ram then FF does(plus it has that cool built in task manager).

    After switching to Chrome I have a hard time going back to anything else. It’s not cluttered with buttons, and I haven’t even bothered with toolbars (can you use toolbars with Chrome?) It leaves plenty of room on the screen for viewing websites, and it looks great.

    Chrome works flawlessly for me – stable, beta and dev versions. Has done since the beta of Windows 7.

    You’ve obviously got a stuffed up installation of Windows – perhaps try running CCleaner to fix any reg conflicts.

    The speed of Chrome is so blatantly obvious to all and every – if every major tech blog can say that, i don’t think they’re just “lucky” to have got it working.

    there’s a lot of anti-Google FUD on this site, hence why i shan’t be coming back.

    Worked fine on windows 7 for me, and after doing dll tests with multiple browsers, all the major ones, google chrome turned out to be the fastest, also has the best download manager and the home page is just so good, its usability is off the chart and it looks so good, it needs more plugins like a foxit plugin but otherwise its easily the best browser for any os. however wrote this article is full of it.

    I did have some issues with chrome on the first few RC editions of Windows 7
    After it hit RTM though these issues have been cleaned up.
    Not sure if it was Microsoft or Google who fixed it, but it has worked like a charm ever since.
    As I’m not one for using plugins, I am perfectly happy with the minimalistic looks and snappy feel of Chrome, which is critical in these netbook times with small widescreen monitors.

    The home page in Chrome is very nice, but I do think credit is due to other browsers as Chrome was certainly not the first to make it.

    Opera and Safari both have similar home pages, which had more functionality than Chrome until recent updates.

    GChrome has worked since day one across all versions of windows that I’ve used it on (xp, vista, 7, even 98). It seems much faster at loading web pages, and definitely starting up (~15-34 seconds Firefox, ~1-3 seconds GChrome). One thing I really like is that Google Chrome always seems to work. Even when it doesn’t work, it’s working! (I’m referring to the Chrome Task Manager) And Google Chrome is perfect for me since I never used the Mozilla plugins. The only real complaint I would have with it is that flash seems to be choppier and use higher cpu percentages than on IE/Firefox. Other than that, it seems to be the perfect web browser for me. I’m very impressed and can’t wait for the debut of Google Chrome OS!

    Chrome doesnt work on my Win7. It runs super slow, have tried all the recommendation to fix it and no luck! I love chrome but like I said it runs super slow and usually pages dont load up the first time.
