Windows 7 GameGuard Fix – A Solution!
Many games of NCSoft currently do not work on Windows 7, in particular the MMO Lineage 2.
I think they updated the GameGuard for Aion and possibly for Guild Wars, but not for L2 or Rappelz.
Lineage 2 by NCSoft
Rappelz is not a NCSoft game by the way, it’s more like a free copy of Lineage 2.
Here’s the solution:
1. Download the updated GameGuard from Aion here. GameGuard Windows 7 fix
2. Duplicate the l2.bin (inside the system folder) and rename it to l2.exe.
3. Next, replace the GameGuard files that are officially signed by NCSoft.
Sidenotes: Never start Lineage 2 through the Lineage2.exe in the main folder, only if there is an update start Lineage2.exe, let it update the game and repeat the steps above.

Official statement of the Lineage 2 community manager Lyzira:
Modifications of this nature are not permitted and should something go wrong with your client or account as a result, we would be unable to assist you.
Please be aware that we are already looking into the matter with Gameguard and Windows 7 and will update you when we have more information.
However, it is not a modification it is an update of GameGuard with official files, so you are not breaking any rules at all. There’s quite an aggressive discussion going on on the official boards, but I would say it’s safe to say that this is the only solution so far to make it run without deleting GameGuard and breaking the EULA.
To fix other games like Rappelz you will simply have to replace GameGuard with the updated files.

I did everything you said! But its still not working i try to start it and then it still says the l2 bin stopped working… everytime i try to start it!! why?
hi , i did like i read but i still get an error when i wanna run Lineage on W7 i get this”canot play from this location”and whne i clik ok i get another errorsomething with runtime error.

Typed in my name n pass n clicked log in then it stopped responding :(

Hi, I replaced the old gameguard.des file with the new one but When I go in C:/Windows/system, there’s nothing. there is a lot of files in /system32 but the l2.bin file is not there.
I don’t know why I have this problem but I hope someone will help me

I am getting that side-by-side configuration error every time. Did as read here and on other forums but still no luck. Some said it was because of some lack of memory and I got once “insufficent virtual memory error” so – awaiting new fix :P

Weird. I installed L2 and AION on my PC. I have Win7. Aion had NO problems, L2 also hadnt. Howeverm i was trying to login at L2 (i installed but never played) and i got the “wrong password” message all thr time. So i read at forums that i should reinstalled (i tried all the other options people gave me but they didnt work), so i did, i installed but when i open it to update I just get Connection to server was terminated. And there is NO way to fix it. I tried it all, i resintalled 3 times, i installed with compability with windows xp, i installed as de Administrator, i did everything, which is WEIRD, because at the first time it just worked perfect! I installed, updated, checked the files, but now it just seem to NOT work.

Also temporarily disable all your firewalls and make sure Gameguard can connect. Look up the gameguard port on the internet and give your firewalls access (forward the port).
Lastly, you may want to try to create a new Windows 7 user account and then install NOTHING but Lineage 2.

If you installed lineage clean i asume you have a lineage II profile?
if u havein trouble login in try connectin to a private server ;)
