If you still haven’t upgraded to Windows 7 yet, now might be a good time. Microsoft updated their list of applications that are compatible with Windows 7. The nearly 2MB big list is a complete list for anyone who’s trying to figure out if their favorite/needed tools are still compatible.

As previously reported, Windows 7 also supports a lot of old games and programs by now.

Especially when you have some tools that are essential, that you absolutely need e.g. for work purposes or you simply don’t want to miss on Windows 7, you will carefully consider an upgrade to Windows 7, because it could mean 100′s of hours of wasted time if the tools do not work as expected.

Now, you have a list of Windows 7 Apps that are compatible and you can simply look up if your tools and applications are on the list or not. The list of applications comes as a .xls file that you can open with Excel or OpenOffice Calc. It contains 2 sheets, the release notes and the application list, so you’ll first have to switch to the list. Microsoft explicitly states if Windows 7 has native support for your applications or if they require a free or paid update. If an applications is not compatible, Microsoft further states if the developers plan to add support for Windows 7 soon. Some applications already have been certified by Microsoft and can proudly use the Windows 7 compatibility logo for their promotion.
