The new Zelda every Nintendo fan is waiting for will not be released until 2014 – but it looks pretty darn cool
Sources speaking to Wii U Daily claim The Legend of Zelda for Wii U is arriving earlier than we may have expected — 2014. The title will follow the art style of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, an exciting move for a console than can deliver high definition graphics.
Nintendo was planning on releasing its next The Legend of Zelda title in 2013 to combat Microsoft and Sony’s next-generation consoles
A The Legend of Zelda game for Nintendo’s current console is always an event: the titles are around four-five years in development and typically release late into the cycle. Nintendo seems to be bucking the trend with the Wii U Zelda title, releasing it in a couple of years and taking full advantage of Wii U’s hardware.
Wii U Daily reported that the title will release in 2014 and is the biggest and most expensive The Legend of Zelda Nintendo has ever developed, with hundreds of people working on the game. The source claims to have seen the entry, describing the art style as in the vein of 2011’s The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
The source seems reliable: it leaked information to Wii U Daily on a social network for Wii U, now know as Miiiverse, along with an achievement system for the console.
A Bigger Zelda
Wii U’s HD capability means the art style of Skyward Sword should be fully realized. Nintendo has found the sweet spot for Zelda titles, the source also said. Playing Skyward Sword I thought how the art style just didn’t deliver because of the Wii’s lacking hardware.
The development team for this Zelda title is the biggest ever, rivaling Rockstar when it’s building a Grand Theft Auto title. The game will be in development for four years by release, and it is using a new engine and the new Wii U technology.
The game was originally slated for a fall 2013 release date to combat potential next-generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony, though the date is not realistic and therefore the unnamed title is releasing 2014.
Dungeons will takes hours to complete due to being multi-part; a forest dungeon was built from an early build of the game and is bigger than the overworld in Ocarina of Time.
