FEATURED: Activating Windows 7 can be a lot of trouble (Slui.exe & Slmgr.vbs)

Note: This is for educational purposes only, because people experienced licensing problems on Vista before.

Activating Windows 7 can cause a lot of trouble. First of all, you should create a restore point before you do anything. An excellent tutorial can be found at:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/

Important Sidenotes:

  • You can’t turn on system protection for your HDD in safe mode!!!
  • Slmgr.vbs cannot be started in safemode

Files that should be in place if you want to activate Windows 7:

Default: C:/Windows/System32/
slwga.dll
slmgr.vbs
slui.exe (rename .bak to slui.exe)

Well, do you already know about those fancy animated background wallpaper? Vista Ultimate had a feature called “DreamScenes” that would allow you to select a video as your desktop wallpaper.

For all of you who missed this nice little Windos Vista feature I suggest you read this article and enjoy 120+ animated background wallpapers!

Unfortunately Microsoft disabled this feature in the Windows 7 beta.

Well as stated in a previously post it is a very easy task to add that QuickStart / QuickLaunch (whatever you want to call it) toolbar to your taskbar.

Some people will still miss one thingĀ  if they follow the guide and that is a) the “Show Desktop” icon and b) the “Window Switcher” that was included in Vista.
To add both of them simply open the Explorer (Windows + E) and browse to the folder:

C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Copy the icons via STRG+C and locate your QuickLaunch folder and paste them in there via STRG+V.
