The latest Windows 7 build that has been leaked is build 7600.16385. It has not been leaked by wzor this time, instead a chinese guy got his hands on possibly the final build. But do you really think this is going to be the RTM build? I say no.

Here’s a quote from Brandon LeBlanc of the WindowsTeamBlog.

We are close, but have not yet signed off on Windows 7. When we RTM you will most certainly hear it here. As we’ve said all along, we will RTM Windows 7 when it’s ready. As previously stated, we expect Windows 7 to RTM in the 2nd half of July.

Sidenote: He also confirmed that Microsoft will continue engineering on Windows 7 from RTM until GA on October 22nd. They also started to develop Windows 8 and we will probably be able to get some more news about a Service Pack 1 for Windows 7.

Anyway, since July 13th we haven’t heard any confirmation that the final build has been compiled. It could be build 7600.16385, but they could also come up with another build this week (less likely).

Update: After reading a great blog post over at Ed Bott’s Blog, I finally found this:

The transition between Reller and Veghte is timed to take place in late July when Windows 7 reaches the release to manufacturing (RTM) milestone.

Update 2: EdBott replied via Twitter to my statement that 16385 will not be declared RTM :

It’s quite possible that 16385 could be declared RTM. I didn’t mean to imply anything beyond that.

Conclusion: Considering that some other sources (like wzor.net) also do not have any information about another build, it seems that 16385 will be declared RTM (90% confirmation).

Windows 7 RTM Build 7260 Leaked By WZOR

Windows 7 RTM Build 7260 has been leaked by WZOR. The .iso and a VHD is available on the various torrent sites. As usual, you can find a link on our forums.

Compiled on June 12th by WZOR, who has also leaked Office14 (the new office) and Microsoft’s new security tool (codename Morro).

Just for clarification, you will probably read/hear the terms GA and RTM from time to time. They stand for General Availability and Release to Manufacturing:

General Availability: 22 October 2009
Release to Manufacturing: End of July

According to Brandon LeBlanc they will complete work on Windows 7 RTM in late July.

Brandon LeBlanc (May 11):
If the telemetry we receive from the Windows 7 RC meets our expectations in terms of quality, then we expect to hit RTM in 3 months or so

So, do you think it is a possibility that Microsoft is already working on SP1 (Service Pack 1)?
I think many people would want Microsoft to focus solely on RTM and not on SP1, but it is indeed a possibility that they already work on SP1.

I’m sure you’ve already seen it, but did you know that they changed the leaked picture of SP1 after it had been released? Pretty curious.

Many sites report that a Windows 7 RC2 is about to be released on June 11.
Even Windows7News.com fell for this bad joke and posted two videos of  RC2.

Obviously, all of this is a fake. Microsoft clearly stated that there will be no RC2.

Here are parts of the fake changelog:

Changelog:
- Taskbar can now lock any program
- Dynamic Mouse-over effects for all taskbar icons
- New Aero Diamond Theme
- Feature: Change the login screen background
- More Aero Glass effects
- Support for one-click upload of photos, videos, documents, etc to sites like Facebook and Imageshack (sites will be configurable)
- WinFS filesystem will replace NTFS
- .net framework support for the Explorer for enhanced performance
- Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish keyboard settings will be integrated (by default?)

Just one quote from Wikipedia will show you that all of this is a great fake:

WinFS was billed as one of the pillars of the “Longhorn” wave of technologies, and would ship as part of the next version of Windows. It was subsequently decided that WinFS would ship after the release of Windows Vista, but those plans were shelved in June 2006, with some of its component technologies being integrated into upcoming releases of ADO.NET and Microsoft SQL Server.[3]

For all of you who don’t know it, Longhorn was once the codename for Windows 7 Vista.

Have you downloaded the Windows 7 RC yet? If not, don’t worry there’s plenty of time and unlimited product keys.

Here is the official download link:

http://technet.microsoft.com/

http://www.microsoft.com/

You can download either x64 or x32 in English, German, Japanese, French, and Spanish.

One feature has been removed from the release client shortly after the release. The “Tab responsiveness feature” that was included in the IE8 was causing too much trouble and might become more annoying than useful. It would automatically check the status of slow responding tabs, so that you could close them quickly. I love the new responsiveness check for applications, but it was probably a good idea to disable the tab responsiveness feature to avoid any annoyances.

Actually rumors said that the RC would be available in April, or was that just an April’s Fool? Microsoft is getting better at creating a hype ;) (just joking, but all the leaked stuff probably comes from Microsoft by now)

A “leaked” site clearly stated that Windows 7 RC will be available  throughout June 2009 and Microsoft will not limit the amount of product keys. The great thing is that they give you a full year of testing. Do they still plan to release Windows 7 in 2009? More news inside.

If you haven’t heard it yet, the latest Build 7048 will give users the possibility to remove the Internet Explorer completely from your PC. This is a precaution of Microsoft to avoid getting sued again due to monopoly forming.

Should you want to download that leaked build make sure to compare your MD5 hash and file size

Size: 3.31GB
MD5 hash: AD6F261F 6AC20FA0 F50F7DE7 54491863 A2DD16C2.

This build is a pre-release client. Soon Microsoft will release the RC1 internally.
