Tip: You also might want to update the screen resolution (window size), multisampling (AA) and shadow details. If you have a good graphic card you can enable AA, run Final Fantasy 14 on a high resolutions and enable the highest shadow details.

The tab Graphics provides advanced options:

  • Ambient Occlusion
  • Depth of Field
  • Texture Quality and Texture Filtering

Check the options Ambient Occlusion and Depth of Field if you think that your graphic card can handle it!

You don’t have to downgrade to play the Final Fantasy XIV beta. Have you tried running it in compatibility mode? If that doesn’t work read through this article: http://windows7themes.net/final-fantasy-xiv-has-stopped-working.html and update your drivers.

I tried the above steps but all I got was a window with Japanese writing and an OK button and can’t even get into what you show above.

Cynder, repeat steps 1-4 and then from the dropdown select English. You will then be able to follow the other steps.

Scratch that, figured it out. Thanks for putting up all the links by the way, the SE downloader was taking forever..you can just delete these after reading them if you wish :P It’s late and I’ve been arguing with my PC getting this game going for awhile lol.

yea I didn’t have the drop down box (thanks for fast answer btw) but I had the client open at the time and that was the issue.

Glad you fixed it and thanks for letting us know what the problem was. Btw, full screen mode might not that good, every time you use ALT + tab your client will end the game. There is no good work around other than Windowed mode and setting the window size to your screen resolution.

More about that Alt+tab issue here:

I too was having the Japanese character config option. Thanks for these steps and for posting the solution, Cynder.
