Reinvented: Windows 8 Blue Screen Of Death
The new Windows 8 Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) is quite nice.
The new black/blue screen of death does not show any error codes, instead it’s showing a more user-friendly blue screen with a sad smiley. In smaller letters it’s giving us a reason e.g. “HAL Initialization Failed” or ”System Service Exception”
While this new blue screen might be more user-friendly, it’s not so useful for debugging Windows 8. System admins can probably restore the error codes and of course you can enable crash dumps in Windows 8 that will help you to find the actual problems.
Most blue screens can be categorized, so it should be easy to create a more useful blue screen that is both useful and “end-user-friendly”. Instead of simply telling us “that the PC ran into a problem and to search online” it could give us some suggestions what could be the problem. Maybe in Windows 9 ;)
