According to the latest Windows 8 build 7850, Windows 8 will include “portable workspaces”, which basically allow you to put Windows 8 on a USB stick.

That isn’t really a surprise. When Windows 7 was released back in October 2009, hackers in China were selling Windows 7 on USB drives that was fully bootable if I remember correctly. So, why not use that idea and create a real bootable Windows? Steve Ballmer said Windows will be everywhere, so portable workspaces seems more than a simple rumor. We have added this feature to our list of probable Windows 8 features.

The feature was spotted in the leaked 7850.0.winmain_win8m1.100922-1508 build. Portable Workspaces will basically allow you to take your Windows wherever you go. Now, obviously that is very handy for business users who can take their entire PowerPoint presentations or work and use it on a client’s PC for a presentation.

But a portable Windows 8 would be great for a number of reasons, especially if Windows 8 is going to be cross-platform compatible and you can plug that bootable Windows USB device into all sorts of other devices like portable tablet PC’s or even mobile phones.

Actually, I would be surprised if this feature is not going to be implemented into Windows 8, it perfectly fits the entire Windows 8 concept: “Windows 8 will be everywhere, wherever you go”.
