News: Windows 8 Could Get Mac-OS-X-Like Feature For Backups (History Vault)

One of the recently leaked Windows 8 screenshots shows a new feature called “History Vault”. The History Vault could be something like the Mac OS X feature “Time Machine” – only better.

Windows 8 History Vault

The Time Machine feature on Mac OS X is pretty awesome and allows you to take snapshots of your current system state.

With the Windows 8 feature “system restore”, Windows 8 users will soon get a more powerful tool for restoring their system. Windows 8 might not only be able to reset your entire system to the factory default settings (while keeping all of your files), it might also be able to store different versions of files, thanks to the new “History Vault”

Let’s say you update a specific file many times and you might want to keep a backup of older versions, then Windows 8′s history vault could help you to restore the older versions (based on timestamps).

Of course, all of this is just a rumor. Nonetheless, the chances are good that we will see some sort of new backup feature and the much-requested “reset to factory default” feature.

Since Microsoft is clearly trying to beat Apple and Linux in any way and provide much more powerful tools, the “History Vault” is only one out out many, many new features that Windows 8 will introduce.
