Multiplayer beta for Call of Duty 7 Black Ops coming?

Treyarch’s community manager Josh Olin has announced via Twitter that they are considering a multiplayer beta for Call of Duty Black Ops. They are aware of the advantages and the popular demand for such a beta test.

Call of Duty Black Ops Multiplayer beta

Call of Duty World at War did have a multiplayer test, MW2 didn’t, so it’s definitely time for another beta test. Apparently internal testing is good enough to make a decent game (proof is MW2), but to give the community a chance to test the game and help to make it better should be a priority.

I could understand it if they are not going to do a beta test, but if they do, the game will be already close to release. Too many players don’t actually know what a beta is and think that it is actually the final game and not a testing phase for developers to get rid of bugs, try new features, optimize the network code or balance the gameplay.

The multiplayer beta would most certainly not include the co-op mode they’re also working on, although this might be one of the highlights of Call of Duty Black Ops according to the last statements from Treyarch:

“We’re crafting unique co-op modes around that experience, but it is different than what people think.”
