Microsoft Surface Tablets Versus Google Nexus 7: The Comparison

Google could be unveiling a Nexus Android tablet titled “Nexus 7″ at its I/O June 27, so let’s compare it and Microsoft Surface.

MSFT Tablet: Outstanding Specs, MSFT With More Momentum

Microsoft is building up a lot of momentum, while Apple and Google lose a lot of it, that’s one of the reasons why we clearly favor the Microsoft tablet, but there are more reasons, including the considerably larger screen and the outstanding specs of the Surface tablet

Specs have leaked over what Google could be unveiling tomorrow – a tablet. Is Surface already threatened?

Google’s I/O conference begins tomorrow, and it’s widely expected the company will unveil the next generation of Android software called Jelly Bean. However, it’s also rumored the company will be showing off an in-house tablets called Nexus 7 which could sounds like more competition to Microsoft’s Surface tablets.

Design

Gizmodo Australia says the tablet will be called the Nexus 7, which probably refers to the 7-inch form factor, and will use a 1.3GHz quad-core processor along with a GeForce 12-core GPU and 1GB of RAM. 8GB and 16GB storage sizes will be available.

The Surface’s screen is 10.6 inches – considerably larger – and it’s not know how the benchmark of Surface will compare to the Nexus. Chance are the Pro version will be using 1GB of RAM, and Metro – even on the Release Preview, which isn’t final – seems to run very smoothly. Android has had consistent problems with the user experience being sub-par, so it should be a priority on a tablet. The Surface comes in 32 and 64GB sizes.

Rising Prices, But At What Cost?

Resolution

We don’t know what the Surface’s resolution will be – only that the RT and Pro versions will use HD and Full HD resolutions – while the Nexus 7 tablet will use a 1280×800 resolution according to Gizmodo. On the front will be a 1.2 megapixel camera – all we know about Surface’s is that it’s positioned a 22 degrees to ensure people are always framed – and it will offer nine hours of battery life. I imagine that’s pretty competitive with both Surface tablets; the new iPad offers 10, at least according to Apple.

Pricing

Pricing is reported to be competitive with the Kindle Fire, so around $199 for the 8GB version and $249. Microsoft hasn’t announced pricing for Surface, but reports suggested pricing will be $599 for the RT version and $999 for the Pro version. That’s a lot more expensive, though we don’t know the difference in Nexus’s functionality.
