Microsoft Released New Internet Explorer Test Build for Windows 8


Microsoft released a test build of Internet Explorer (IE) 10 that works only on Windows 8, adding more support for HTML5.

Microsoft delivers new IE 10 preview for Windows 8

On November 29, Microsoft has made its 4th platform preview test build of Internet Explorer 10 (IE 10) available for download. The newly released Platform Preview 4 for Internet Explorer 10 is available only for the Developer Preview edition of Windows 8.

Not an update to IE 10 on Windows 7

Microsoft has announced that this would not be an update to the Platform Preview of Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7. It further announced that the update for Windows 8 would not be an update to the Platform Preview of IE 10 on Windows 7. Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 has been on Platform Preview 2 since June and no announcement has been made yet about its update.

Platform Preview 4 adds further HTML5 support

Microsoft posted on its Internet Explorer blog that Internet Explorer 10 on Preview Platform 4 has added greater support for HTML5. It will enable more advanced development of Web applications with markedly improved performance. Among the additions related to HTML5, support for JavaScript type arrays in order to attain efficient storage and manipulating typed data has been introduced. Further, changes have been made to the CSS user selected property in order to control the end-user selecting elements on a Web page or an application.
Additional support for HTML5 text captioning in videos with placement, time code and captioning file formats has also been provided. Also newly added is Cross Origin Resource Sharing that enables the developers to use XML Http Request to share, request as well as move data across different application on various domains.
Today’s post by the Group Program Manager, Rob Mauceri, also revealed that IE 10 on PP4 is introducing an updated quirks mode that is said to be more inter operable and consistent with with other browsers like Chrome, Safari, Opera and Firefox. Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview 4 is expected to be eventuallt made available for Windows 7. Microsoft is presumed to be aiming the release of IE 10 around the same time as it plans to release Windows 8.
