OA version 2 that is used in Windows 7 will get a major update. Windows 8 will have an updated OEM BIOS activation to prevent that crackers can mass-activate their pirated Windows 8 copies.

Well, obviously crackers are already hard at work trying to crack Windows 8 , but Microsoft won’t make it easy for them.

OA version 3 is supposed to make it very difficult for all crackers to even activate their Windows 8 copies. OA (OEM Activation) allows manufacturers to mass-activate machines. Obviously, it would take a lot of time to active each machine individually, that’s why manufacturers of OEM PC’s can buy OEM keys from Microsoft to mass-activate machines. With version 3 of OA, Microsoft now tries to secure this backdoor that was cracked in the past.

DRM Hell

From my point of view, Microsoft should also try to improve the general online activation and make it more difficult for crackers to find a way around it. But they always need to be careful not to mess with their customers by making it too difficult to activate Windows 8. A lot of people refuse to buy games because of the DRM hell and all the trouble involved. So, whatever they do, they need to do it the smart way, but I’m confident they will find a good way to protect Windows 8 from crackers this time.

There will always be people who will try to activate their pirated copies, just to see if it’s doable, but with all the new features that will be implemented into Windows 8, it’s basically a no-brainer.
