Microsoft London Studio Focuses On Windows 8 Development

Microsoft is building a London studio to focus on Windows 8 products, to open in November, though seems to be functioning now. The studio is hiring now and will report to vice president Phil Harrison, recruited this year from Sony.

Former Rare and Sony executives are focusing on development a London-based studio from Microsoft to work on Windows 8 products

Microsoft announces it is to continue to expand its presence in London with the launch of its fourth studio in the capital. The studio will focus on developing Windows 8 entertainment experiences and games.

The studio will initially be based at Microsoft’s headquarters at Great Putney Street, London, before the studio opens in November. The company didn’t confirmed where in London it will situate. It is hiring people, however.

Former production director at Rare Lee Schuneman is heading the studio that is building Windows 8 tablets. He and the studio will report to Microsoft vice president Phil Harrison, formerly of Sony and Atari, recruited earlier this year.

Pushing Windows 8 Into Europe

Schuneman said he is excited about the project, adding a fourth Microsoft-owned studio in London. He added it allows Microsoft to explore creative and business opportunities that developing new entertainment and gaming experiences on Windows 8 offers.

If you’re thinking what other studios Microsoft owns, then look towards Rare, Lionhead, and Studio Productions. They’re not all Windows 8-centric studios, as was implied.

Windows 8 launches October 26.
