TOP: Lenovo Unveils Convertible Windows 8 Ideapad Yoga 11/13, Lynx Tablet

Lenovo unveiled the Ideapad Yoga 11 and 13, as well as the Ideapad Lynx Tablet and a business device called Thinkpad Twist

Microsoft’s celebration event on October 25 may offer devices for media to use, and it would be surprising if Microsoft didn’t include Lenovo.

Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13

Releasing October is the IdeaPad Yoga 13. It includes a 13.3-inch screen, weighs 1.5 kilograms/3.3 pounds, and uses Ivy Bridge Intel processors. Lenovo said the battery lasts for eight hours and breaks the $1,000 mark on October 26, priced at $1,099. Whether the battery life stands up when tested remains to be seen.

Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 11 Tent  - Trendy Orange Color

The second device, releasing December, is the IdeaPad Yoga 11. It is a hybrid tablet-laptop device that can switch between the two form factors. It uses an 11.6-inch screen and a touchscreen when using a tablet. Using an ARM processor, the device runs Windows RT, the feature-limited version of Windows 8 that can’t run legacy apps.

The Yoga 11 weights 1.27 kilograms,and the battery life is 13 hours according to Lenovo. The IdeaPad Yoga 11 releases in December for $799 in the U.S. Again, the device is yet to be used so battery life figures are subject to testing.

Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx – 11.6 Inch Tablet

Another device is the Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx – this is a great tablet for both consumers and professionals

Lenovo also uneiled a Windows 8 tablet specifically designed for professionals called Lenovo Thinkpad Twist - it’s called Business-Ready Device

Mobile Market

Senior Vice President of Lenovo’s product group Peter Hortensius revealed Yoga 11 is aimed at mobile users, the consumers Windows 8’s Modern UI targets. The hybrid form factor is perhaps unique to Windows 8, and the platform that can make it successful. In theory users can switch between desktop and Modern UI mode to use the laptop and tablet form factors, respectively.

Hortensius also confirmed a hinge stops the screens from separating, though the feature means Lenovo can build a device more akin to a laptop. Devices have been announced that can be separated. The downside is users will inevitable prefer one form of the product, perhaps not value for money, and defeating the point of building a hybrid device.

Windows 8 launches October 26 worldwide.
