Leaked: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Is Coming To Wii U, Not Officially Confirmed Yet

Black Ops 2 For Wii U Confirmed

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is probably coming to Wii U, Nintendo’s next-generation gaming console, though it isn’t confirmed. Officially, anyway, because a quality assurance (QA) tester revealed on his LinkedIn profile that he is playing the Wii U version!

We’ve talked about how Treyarch is looking to build a different Call of Duty experience with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. For the first time a version releasing on a Nintendo console could look identical to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, and perhaps even better.

A Treyarch QA tester posted on his LinkedIn profile he’s involved with testing the PS3 and Wii U versions of Black Ops 2, among other duties. This is first unofficially official confirmation of Black Ops 2, though there is an expectation the title will release on Wii U. That’s partly because of Call of Duty’s history of launching on multiple platforms, and partly because Nintendo is shooting for third-party developers.

Testing is hugely important for any multiplayer title and especially Call of Duty, given it’s massive multiplayer audience on a yearly basis. And considering Treyarch is introducing new weapons and gadgets to tie into the 2025 setting, a lot of unknowns will be in play. We’ve seen titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 heavy criticism for its lack of balance.

Combining First and Third Parties

Nintendo’s previous Call of Duty titles have been inferior to HD versions because of the Wii lacking power and the online infrastructure. We’re not sure how the latter will work in practice, however the former seems to be significantly improved. Gearbox Software’s head Randy Pitchford said Aliens: Colonial Marines is the best looking version of the game.

While the Call of Duty community will probably stay with the Xbox 360 when Black Ops 2 launched, at least Nintendo is delivering on its aim to entice third-party developers. Ubisoft is launching Assassin’s Creed 3 alongside the Wii U — development rang alongside the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions — and combined with Nintendo’s third party roster it could have a very strong launch lineup.
